Pavithra Dikshit, "Two-Oh. Two-Oh." (2020)

For everyone around the world, 2020 has been a year like no other. Survival has turned into a mediation between the quotidian and the desires. Despite the several temptations, people coped with the flux in their own ways. Dikshit feels she spent more time looking at the screen and then as an instant and opposite reaction, spent time wanting to make things with her hands. To her, the basic mortar pestle are a perfect reference to a year spent cooking in the kitchen and getting pounded with everything else thrown at us, beginning with nature. 

Pavithra is a Design Director at Landor & Fitch in India. Her portfolio of work is spread across wide-ranging corporate and consumer segments focussed primarily in India’s emerging marketplace. Outside of this, Pavithra’s practice lies in the cross-sections of everyday life and design, explored within a cultural context. She is one of the founding partners of Kadak, a collective of South-Asian women, non-binary and queer folk who work with graphic storytelling of different kinds and is also a member of the global Type Camp and Girl Gaze community. She was listed as one of the 20 under 35 emerging designers in India in 2017 for her practice by Design x Design and Alliance Française de Delhi. Pavithra’s upcoming independent project on Matrimony Coffee Dates will be published in Bystander: Stories, Observations and Witnessing from South Asia, A Comics Anthology by Kadak Collective in early 2021. In her spare hours, she reads voraciously, embraces heirloom recipes from her mother and tends to the family terrace garden.
